Window Covering

What other options are there for vertical blinds.?

Can you put a curtain or other window treatment on the glass structure that is not opened? I have vertical blinds now but am getting tired of them. I am currently painting in my kitchen and want something different for the patio door. Any suggestions would be helpful. Are wooden blinds an option? Thank you

  1. tint the windows
  2. go with HORIZONTAL !
  3. Today's sliding doors, patio doors, and similar structures are no longer limited to vertical blinds. Here are a few ideas: You might try a Cellular Slider. This is great alternative to vertical blinds. They come in a wide variety of colors and patterns to go along with your newly painted kitchen, and they'll provide energy efficiency, as well. BlindCrafters offer the Ovation Cellular Slider (for more information, visit: http://www.blindcrafter.com/cellularslider.cfm) to enhance the beauty of doors like you mentioned. Another option that would differ greatly from the vertical blinds, is a drapery sheer, that would offer more of a soft, fabric feel. These are especially nice if you want to have varying degrees of control and privacy that the window treatment offers. BlindCrafter has Ballet Performance Drapery Sheers (http://www.blindcrafter.com/draperysheers.cfm) and they flow into soft billows for a really unique, elegant look for your kitchen. Finally, sheer window shadings are an option, depending on the setup of the door. There are specialized sheers for doors that provide the soft look of a fabric, with vanes that you can adjust to change the amount of light and privacy you want. BlindCrafter offers Shangri-La Doorstyles (http://www.blindcrafter.com/shadings/doorstyles.cfm) to do just this. I hope that this helps. It's great you're thinking outside your comfort zone to explore fresh, new options for your home. By researching and exploring, you'll find a design that's best for you. Happy Designing! Kristina
  4. Hi Wild Woman. There are many who share your same opinion regarding vertical blinds. Luckily, there are many other options available to use for this application. Yes, wood blinds or any other horizontal product are now commonly installed over each section of the patio door. Most will mount above and over the glass to help distribute the stacking of the material. Some of the newer options are sliding panels, *vertiglides (*vertical honeycomb shades), sheer vertical shadings, etc. There are even faux wood vertical blinds that give you the look of wood while being very durable and easy to clean. I am a little biased since I work for this company. But I think that we have many good options to use instead of plain vertical blinds. I will provide a link below to our "Vertical Blind Alternatives" page. I hope this helps. Good luck and happy shopping. : ) Regards, Gil@blinds.com
  5. To control the intensity of the light outside entering, use of blinds is a recommended idea for your window. Blinds come in different variation to suit your window requirements. Another popular window treatment idea is to the use drapery, i.e. fabric to change the layout and look of the window. It will not only serve its function of covering up the window, offering you privacy, dimming the outside light but also beautifies the room.
