Window Covering

Window Covering Design Rules?

What's the design rule when it comes to hard treatment window coverings? Do I need to go with either all wood blinds or all Roman blinds in the entire house or can I mix? Meaning, I'd like to use wood blinds in the living room and family room and use romans in the bedrooms.

  1. no problem. each window treatment just needs to work in its own room. Different rooms have different functions - you don't have to be glued to one type of window covering.
  2. You can mix....different rooms don't have to be the same. Unless the two rooms are kind of open to each other, like the kitchen/dining area. Then I'd match them.....
  3. You can mix. Have you seen the blinds that now go inside of the glass, between two panes of glass. These are nice in a bedroom, you can keep the switch on the bedside table, and adjust the blinds at will. Makes it nice if you have no privacy issues. I wonder how these hold up over the long haul.
  4. there are no rules when it comes to decorating!!! If there are, kick them out and do your own thing. the basic thing is to not put both roman and blinds in the same room!!! I have fluffy priscilla drapes for the back bedroom, but my grandson thinks that is only for girls!! He put up blinds and put the fluffy priscillas in a bag in the closet.
  5. I would recommend doing the public rooms in one style, the bedrooms each in their own style. When looking at the home from the outside, consider what one will see. I like the street side (for curb appeal) to show same window treatments.
