Window Covering

Should window treatments match? If one bedroom has shutters should the other match?

Can there be shutters on one window and roiman shadees on the other?

  1. Typically people like all windows to look uniform to someone looking at the house, especially on the front of the house.
  2. You are asking two different questions here, I think. I will answer both in hopes that you get the answer you are looking for. Question One: If one bedroom has shutters should the other match.(assuming you are talking about two separate bedrooms) Answer: No, you need not match all bedrooms with the same window treatments. Some people want that cookie cutter look on the outside, but I find it boring and predictable and besides, each room has individual needs and deserves it's one set and style of window treatments. I would be really bored if all my window treatments were alike. Question Two: Can there be shutters on one window and roman shades on the other? (assuming you are talking about the same room) Answer: Yes, in some instances. If the windows are different sizes and/or on different walls, you can get away with shutters on one and roman shades on the other. This is how I would do it to make it cohesive -- If the shutters are half window shutters, put a mock roman shade valance over the window with shutters. It will then look like there is a roman shade in the 'up' position. If your shutters are full window length, you can still put a small mock roman shade valance on the wall above the window, providing it will not look awkward or off balanced with the other window(s) in the room. Good Luck and trust your eye. If you have to ask yourself, does this look good? Then, it does not.
