How do I close my vertical window blinds?

I've been using horizontal window blinds forever now. Now that I've moved I have trouble hanging my vertical window blinds. Theres two strings on the side and when I pull them they hang, but I don't know how to get them down.

1. vertical blinds use a different method from horizontal ones. With horizontal you pull both strings to control left and right ends of the blinds, with vertical blinds you pull only one string to turn them clockwise or pull the other to turn counterclockwise.
