Window Covering

What are some alternatives to vertical blinds for sliding glass doors?

I don't especially want vertical blinds if I don't have to. Are there any other good ideas for sliding glass doors?

  1. there are roll downs and other ideas http://home.ivillage.com/decorating/technique/0,,9l6t,00.html
  2. try drapes or curtains that can easily be raised or pulled aside or tinted process applied to your glass
  3. Good question. Our new house has a sliding glass door and vertical blinds. My mom even gave me a new set of vertical blinds. But my SIL told me it looks like a motel room LOL. The only feasible alternatives I've come up with is a) reflective film (so no one can see in, eliminating the need for any window covering) or b) treating the sliding doors as a really big window. I like b better. You can just buy drapes, valances, etc whatever you would buy for a window. You might have to custom order or make it yourself due to the size though.
  4. Yes, there are other choices. Flowing drapes on rods that help them to be freely pulled away when you want to go in and out the doors. Extend the rods past the sides of the opening. This will enable you to be able to have the drapes when you want them and to also be able to completely have the exit cleared when you choose to as well. This is a terrific look and really accents the doors nicely. You could also use roller and Roman shades that pull up above the door when you do not wish them covered to give you privacy. Here are some links to give you ideas of possible choices. 5. I put a wall of shears up. It flows from ceiling to floor. from corner to corner. I just push them to the side when I'm ready to use the door. It looks pretty nice.
