What color, design, style of curtains should I hang in my formal living room? I have a carmel wall living room with "paprika" colored couches. The trim in the room is white (we're not painting it, even though we should) and the blinds are a dark wood (almost purple). I'm having trouble with the curtain design. We bought the drapery hardware before the curtains were picked out - nice wooden rods. The rod is too big for typical "pocket" valences or sheers. And with pinch pleat drapes, I don't like how the hook shows when you clip on the ring. And colors ... I found some curtains that matched the color of the couches, but it was too much of that one color. I've tried paisley sheers that had both the carmel and the paprika and even the purple to blend with the blinds, but the pocket was too small. I'm getting frustrated!

How do I clip drapery panels together to form wider panels? I just put 4 faux silk drapery panels up to my very wide (112") living room window. It required 4 54" panels for adequate coverage. The panels will be opened and closed regularly for privacy and will require a lot of "arranging" each time to get the gaps out between the inner panels. I know I could sew them together (if I sewed!) or safety pin them (which would show from outside and look messy). Is there a product out there specifically designed to clip panels together in this situation? You'd think the industry would address this problem by making extra wide panels, but I couldn't find any in my extensive online search!
say u have designed a mid-formal family room for a couple.? u have specified the furniture, carpeting, and wall colors. A soft window treatment for the pair of windows flanking the sofa is yet to be designed. Until now your clients have been willing to spend an appropriate amount for the items you specified. You have drawn up several window treatment ideas and estimated their cost. The wife is apprehensive about the cost because she is used to buying ready-made draperies from a department store. How would you "sell" the idea of using a custom treatment to this client?

Have you ever disrespected the American Flag? (d) The flag should never be used as wearing apparel, bedding, or drapery. It should never be festooned, drawn back, nor up, in folds, but always allowed to fall free. g) The flag should never have placed upon it, nor on any part of it, nor attached to it any mark, insignia, letter, word, figure, design, picture, or drawing of any nature. (j) No part of the flag should ever be used as a costume or athletic uniform. However, a flag patch may be affixed to the uniform of military personnel, firemen, policemen, and members of patriotic organizations. Obviously Americans disrespect the flag daily, but I guess we nip and pick what codes we wanna follow and which ones we don't.

What should I do to advance at my job? I have been at my job for almost 2 years. I am an interior designer and love it. However at the age of 26 my boss does not think that I can handle what an older worker can. I have my degree and have been working jobs that have given me experience for several years (since 16). I have done jobs at sherwn williams to learn about paint a kitchen and bath store to learn about detail design, a drapery workroom to learn how to actually make drapery and bedding, and a lighting store. At my current job I was hired on as a designer but the day I started found out that they gave the spot to another lady who had more experience. I felt like that was the right way to go about it at the time since she has been in the feild longer. I was told when a spot open i would get it. I have stayed at the job hoping to move up when a spot opened up. Last Novemeber a spot did however I have yet to get the promotion. I have worked my butt off. Most of the only designer we now has used all my ideas and my bosses know this. I have customers that come in asking for my to work with them and my bosses still will not let me. Other ladies I work with have told me that I should open my own company and come to me for advice with cusotmers the help in the store. I am so confused as to why my bosses do not see this. Another example is that I can read blue prints and even draft them. However the hired an outside party to help them read them recently for a large project. The head designer told them that I have the ablity to do this and they just laughed and said I was to young. They also told me my degree ment nothing. I know that in design that experience and the talent play a huge part in the job but I got a degree to learn how to fine tune those two and learn more. I know that I have the talent and I take in every chance to learn from it and take it in. I have asked them what more I can do to improve myself to advance and they laugh at me. Can anyone give me advice on what to do.

Need help with design of curtains...? I have sliding glass doors in the living room and want to make my own curtains for them. I've already bought the material and the lining material, but I'm not sure how to design them for attachment to the rod. I don't want regular rod-pocket curtains, because they don't pull well, and I want to be able to open and close these curtains easily just by pulling them. I don't want to have to get into making pinch pleats and all that though, or expensive drapery rods. Thanks.
any design ideas for new apartment? we are now moving from a single family home into an apartment. It has an open floorplan, with the kitchen island right off the living area and a small eating area. we cannot paint. So, I am thinking of incorporating color into the room by adding draperies and rugs. does anyone have any ideas on how to unify and add color the room without making it look crowded and closed in. But, still define the different areas? also, any ideas on floor plans??
Adding blackout lining behind existing curtains? Our house came with 15 feet of perfectly acceptable unlined pinch-pleated draperies in the living room covering 4 south-facing windows. The curtains were designed to just meet at the window gaps and to be tied back on either side of each window, rather than to operate on a traverse rod, so there is no overlap of fabric (such as would exist if master carriers/slides were being used). I made blackout lining with thermal lining fabric, so that we could watch TV in that room during the day, and as a stop-gap just added it to the back of the existing curtains by hooking it onto the reverse side of the drapery glides. I simply arranged the blackout lining behind so that it overlaps and blocks all the light. However, I still can’t operate the drapes, and I want to replace the existing hardware so that I can. My problem: I can’t just sew the blackout lining on the drapes, because then there wouldn’t be any overlap for light blockage. If I tried to overlap the curtains, they would be too short to cover the expanse of windows. I would just buy a double traverse rod, and put the lining on the rear rod and the draperies on the front rod, but that would project out into the room at least 5 1/2 inches and cause the curtains to be on top of the heating vents. I would use the magnetic air-redirectors, but the curtains are to the floor. Ideally, I would buy two regular traverse rods, and mount one behind the other, but I can't find any brackets that will let me adjust the rear (lining) rod to be, say 1 ½ to 2 inched from the wall and the front one the standard 3 ½. Ideas?
I want to be a fashion designer... help me with this detail!? I really want to be a fashion designer. My friends, family, multiple art teachers etc think my clothes and dresses are are stellar. I make clothes for everyone and got to design my own bridesmaid dress for my sisters wedding. Almost everything I wear is made by me, but I have one problem.... I can't draw. I can't even draw stick figures, nevertheless drapery! I have tried classes, but the only thing I excel at is drapery on a mannequin. Must I learn how to draw to succeed, or should I start looking for another career in fashion as a, oh I don't know, personal stylist? Please help me! If you think I shouldn't continue with design, please list some other jobs in the industry. I need work with couture! I crave your advice! Thanks x1000000!

Veterans: thoughts on the misuse of the American Flag? Got a term paper on violations of the U.S. code concerning flag etiquette, and I'd like to get some personal opinions from U.S. military veterans, or current law officials (attorneys, judges, police officers etc.). The following points are addressed: don't feel like you need to address all points, just an overview of the subject matter: United States Code Title 4 Section 8: No disrespect should be shown to the flag of the United States of America; the flag should not be dipped to any person or thing. Regimental colors, State flags, and organization or institutional flags are to be dipped as a mark of honor. ... The flag should never touch anything beneath it, such as the ground, the floor, water, or merchandise. ... The flag should never be used as wearing apparel, bedding, or drapery. ... The flag should never be used for advertising purposes in any manner whatsoever. It should not be embroidered on such articles as cushions or handkerchiefs and the like, printed or otherwise impressed on paper napkins or boxes or anything that is designed for temporary use and discard. And any other violations of the Code Title 4. I'm just looking for personal opinions, thoughts, feelings, stories. If you have anything to share, I'd appreciate it.
Interior Design Question? So we just finished up a small remodel on the office. The floors are now wood a reddish mahogany, the walls are painted a soft tan, and my husband just finished framing the window and put up a beautiful trim that is in white. The question is...I really like the trim and don't want to cover it up with a curtain...would a roman shade (or any other suggestions) work there. And I'm thinking a really pale yellow for the color...will that be ok with the colors already mentioned? And lastly if i go roman shade can that stand alone or do i need a valance or some sort of drapery to pull it all together. I'm hoping less is more but am open to ideas. Thanks...sorry so long.
Please HELP to match bed, bedding, walls and curtains!!!? I am helping my mom to decorate her new bedroom. We have purchased blue draperies, very nice beige bedding with a touch of blue (Croscill Cipresi Bedding Collection, http://www.thegreatindoors.com/p-533008-croscill-cipresi-bedding-collection.aspx - it's hard to see the blue in this picture though). Mom has already painted the walls in blue matching the draperies very well. I pictured in my head beige-blue room with a brown or light brown bed. However, she ordered a non-returnable bed in cherry finish together with nightstands as a set. I don't think the cherry finish would go with blue and beige, but she really liked the bed's sleigh design and it was on sale. It has not been delivered yet, so, I don't have a picture. The bedding actually has a little of other colors as well. We all fell in love with the bedding and don't want to return it. The draperies are non-returnable. Is there a way to bring all these pieces together? Should we try painting the bed in light brown somehow? How would we do it? Thank you.
