Where to find drapes/curtains with drapery hooks or pins? Hey this is a continuation, aliceK you said: "You need drapes and drapery hooks or pins for this type of track. You can find them just about anywhere, including Goodwill and a lot of Dollar Stores. But if you want something to block the heat, I'd suggest you look for heavy foam-backed drapes. You might get lucky and find some nice ones at Goodwill, but you'll probably have to go to someplace like Target, Penney's, Bed Bath and Beyond, etc.." JCPenney is having a GREAT sale online for drapes/curtains but they all seem to be rod curtains, none of the drapes say that they are for/can be used with hooks? Am i blind or are there none? here's a link to the thermals: http://www4.jcpenney.com/jcp/ProductList.aspx?deptid=25437&pcatid=28498&catid=28502&cattyp=DEP&dep=Window&pcat=Drapes&cat=Thermal&refpagename=CategoryAll%252Easpx&refdeptid=25437&refcatid=28498&cmAMS_T=U3&cmAMS_C=C2&CmCatId=HomePage|28498
Can you give me some suggestions on how to keep artwork from blowing away? I have rented a small 10'x10' space at this Pork Festival on Friday. It has been really windy. I have a triple screen with chicken wire. I will hang pictures on there with drapery hooks hanging from wires. Can I do anything else to make it secure? Obviously, this is an outdoor event. Last year, one of my watercolors fell down because of the wind and the glass was broken. Any suggestions you have will be appreciated. I will choose the best one tomorrow. Thanks.
How do I use drapery pins with an unpleated drapery panel? I am trying to put up unpleated velvet drapes with the hooks that pin on. If I stick the pins directly into the fabric at the header won't the fabric rip eventually if I open & close the drapes a lot? Do I have to use pleating tape first even though I don't want them to be pleated? I can't find instructions anywhere on how to do this!
How do you insert hooks into pinch pleat curtains? I have just bought my first ever pinch pleat curtains, got them home and realised there's no tape on the back and I've just been given a bag of pointy hooks. Where do I place the pointy hooks? Do I put them in the middle, back of the pleat? Try to get them up under the stitching? Or just stick them into the top hem between pleats (that doesn't seem right, it might tear the curtain fabric) I've looked it up on the internet and found the advice to have the tops of the hooks line up with the tops of the pleats, then hook them into the curtain rings, which is fine. I can find an article about hooks without points which are sewn into the pleats and pictures of drapery hooks, but my hooks have just one prong, not two. I'm a bit nervous about shoving the dangerous looking pointy bits in the wrong place! Can anyone help? The shop where I bought them is miles away.
What height should drapery tie backs be mounted on the wall? I have the braided type of tie backs that get mounted on a hook and I'm not sure where to put the hook.
How do I measure for curtains? ? I have a sliding glass door with a full sized glass panel on each side, making it 12 feet of glass. I have hardware for curtains that use drapery hooks. I'm looking at curtains that have pinch pleats. The length of the window is 144 inches, but I don't know how wide my curtains should be. How do I figure this out? Thanks!!!
what is a pin hook used for in curtains and draperies? http://www5.jcpenney.com/jcp/ProductsHOM.aspx?GrpTyp=PRD&ItemID=0fa5ddf&RefPage=ProductsHOM&CmCatId=25437|28415|28507&cmOrigID=104f559&cmPosID=2 Kessie, what do you mean? Do you have to have a special type of rod to use the pin hooks?
Placement for curtain/drapery holdbacks? I want to install holdbacks for my curtains which are medium in weight. Is there a certain height/level in relation to the window frame as to where to drill/place the holdbacks? Also, is there a certain distance from the window frame that I should hook it onto or does it not matter at all except to my eye's appeal?
What color, design, style of curtains should I hang in my formal living room? I have a carmel wall living room with "paprika" colored couches. The trim in the room is white (we're not painting it, even though we should) and the blinds are a dark wood (almost purple). I'm having trouble with the curtain design. We bought the drapery hardware before the curtains were picked out - nice wooden rods. The rod is too big for typical "pocket" valences or sheers. And with pinch pleat drapes, I don't like how the hook shows when you clip on the ring. And colors ... I found some curtains that matched the color of the couches, but it was too much of that one color. I've tried paisley sheers that had both the carmel and the paprika and even the purple to blend with the blinds, but the pocket was too small. I'm getting frustrated!
How can I make cheap sheer curtains ? I have two huge (12 feet long) sliding glass doors in my new house, one on either end of the living/dining room. I need to cover them, but I'd like to let light in. The previous owners left nice hardware for curtains with drapery hooks, but I think I can use rings with those little clips on them. I can hook the clips to panels of fabric. But how/where do I get really cheap sheers? Okay, inexpensive. Can I buy the fabric? Would it be cheaper to get shower curtains? I think they'd be too short. Bed sheets? Any ideas? I don't really have time to sew a bunch of curtains before we move in. It's not like I'm going to have a bunch of money to spend on this in a couple of months, so they do have to last a little while. And I don't want it to look horrible. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
apt mgr had vertical blinds with cornice put on all windows. I still want to use draperies. how can I put up? want to put of curtains without removing cornice if possible ..but need six inch curtain rod hooks..any idea where I can find these hooks? thats six inches from the wall past the cornice...or should I just remove it??
How do you hang those room darkening panels behind your current drapes? I bought those thermal panels that you can attach behind the drapes you already have to keep out heat and sun in the bedroom. They have a lot of little white thread loops behind them,. but there were no instructions as to how to hang them with your drapes or sheers. Not sure if you use curtain hooks and just hook them over your rod with the sheers? safety pins through the loops, then attach to drapery? Both my drapes have the pocket where the rod slides right through,. so not sure the best way to attach them. I feel silly asking,. but there were no instructions inside the package, the back just said to attach them to the drapes. Thanks for any help.
Hang curtains without rod? Hello all! I am in a bit of a dilemma. I have just recently moved into a new apartment & when I attempted to hang drapes, right where I needed to hang the hook to support the drapery rod on about 1/2 inch into the wall there is a metal panel. I just can't seem to find any way at all to hang these drapes!!! They are 2 taffeta insulated panels, because there are 2 windows side by side. So they're not heavy but they're not light either. The rod I bought extends to 84 in. Does anyone have ANY solution??? Thanks so much in advance!
how to hang draperies? my livingroom windows already have the hardware for the draperies and i want to put up new drapes but i'm not sure if the drapes i want are compatable with the window hardware, How do i put the pins through drapes to be able to hook onto rod?
Adding blackout lining behind existing curtains? Our house came with 15 feet of perfectly acceptable unlined pinch-pleated draperies in the living room covering 4 south-facing windows. The curtains were designed to just meet at the window gaps and to be tied back on either side of each window, rather than to operate on a traverse rod, so there is no overlap of fabric (such as would exist if master carriers/slides were being used). I made blackout lining with thermal lining fabric, so that we could watch TV in that room during the day, and as a stop-gap just added it to the back of the existing curtains by hooking it onto the reverse side of the drapery glides. I simply arranged the blackout lining behind so that it overlaps and blocks all the light. However, I still can’t operate the drapes, and I want to replace the existing hardware so that I can. My problem: I can’t just sew the blackout lining on the drapes, because then there wouldn’t be any overlap for light blockage. If I tried to overlap the curtains, they would be too short to cover the expanse of windows. I would just buy a double traverse rod, and put the lining on the rear rod and the draperies on the front rod, but that would project out into the room at least 5 1/2 inches and cause the curtains to be on top of the heating vents. I would use the magnetic air-redirectors, but the curtains are to the floor. Ideally, I would buy two regular traverse rods, and mount one behind the other, but I can't find any brackets that will let me adjust the rear (lining) rod to be, say 1 ½ to 2 inched from the wall and the front one the standard 3 ½. Ideas?
