Vertical Blinds? My vertical blinds are filthy. They have almost turned brown. When I try to remove them I often break the holders or rip the holes that hold them in place. They are driving me nuts! How can I clean them? When I try wiping them down, it just smears the dirt.

Which has a fancier appeal, horizonal blinds or vertical? I'm not talking about those thin horizontal blinds you see at old motels, but the wooden looking kinds. Most apartments use vertical blinds, but I've seen the at fancy houses too. The horizontal blinds I'm refering to are the wider ones. In your opinon, which one looks classier for an entire house? You guys all rock! I wasn't sure and my hubby did tell me the faux wood blinds are way cooler (that's when we ended up going with for the house). I just wanted to see everyone's thoughts. How do you hang curtains outside of vertical blinds? I live in an apartment that has vertical blinds mounted on the inside frame of the window. The room remains very light, even with the blinds drawn, so I would like to put some light-blocking curtains on the outside frame of the blinds.

best way to wash vertical blinds made of fabric? I'd like to wash some vertical blinds made of fabric. I'm assuming that taking them down and tossing them into the washer, on the delicate cycle, will work fine. At the bottom of each blind there's a rectangular weight sewn into the blind and can't be removed. I'm assuming it won't rust after the fact. :) Any suggestions or thing I should be wary of? Thanks.

What do I use for a curtain rod in front of vertical blinds? My husband and I have a townhouse that we rented. It has sliding doors in the living room to get to the back 'yard', and they put vertical blinds in front of the sliding doors. We do not have a place to store them (our bed is a platform style, so there is no under the bed, and none of our closets are big enough to fit the blinds in there), so we want to leave them up, but cover it with curtains. I'd like to put the curtains in front of the blinds, but the rod would have to extend a good 5 or so inches from the wall. Is there any hardware I can use that would extend the rod connection pieces so I can hang the curtains in front? I'm going to hang the curtains above the blinds and in front, to completely hide them (we don't use that door much, so the curtains won't be fully opened, and I have a design in mind that will let light in, but hide the top of the vertical blinds). But I need to get the curtains in front. Any suggestions? That's what I meant by rod connection pieces...brackets. I just couldn't think of the word.

Is there any way to change my present centre draw vertical blinds into a side draw set-up ? I have two vertical blinds, each with a centre draw split. I want to use both of them on a large window... but need to be able to change the operating mechanism somehow, in order for the blinds to have a side draw. Each blind has both a draw chord and a chain that opens and closes the slats, on the same side. Would like the blinds to be able to stack on that side also. Is there any way to do this without purchasing anything? Is there a way to adjust (or reconfigure) the draw chord (or other appartus) so that it opens and closes the blinds from/to the end of the headrail vice the centre ?

How to repair vertical blinds made of hard plastic? We have vertical blinds made of hard plastic. The sun shining on them has made them quite brittle and now a number of them have snapped at the top where they have the clip that joins the bracket. I tried using tape, but they still kept falling out. The top of the blinds each have a cut-out that the plastic clip attaches to, thereby holding each one in place. The top of the cut-out is what's broken.

How to straighten bent plastic vertical blinds? A neighbour suggested I clean my vertical blinds by leaving them overnight in the bathtub. I did. They are so clean ...but bent out of shape. Replacing vertical blinds on a sliding door? We have a sliding glass door that opens from our dining room to living area (an addition). Since we rent our house, I don't want to spend the money or the time to take out the door, but the existing vertical blinds are an eyesore. Can you combine headrails for vertical blinds? Home Depot sells vertical blind headrails in three different sizes, and they advertise that you can have the widths cut on them. I need a width LARGER than any of the sizes they have, so I was wondering if there is some way to have two smaller pieces cut and then find some way to COMBINE them? Broke one of the hooks for the vertical blinds?? i was opening the vertical blinds which leads to my backyard when one of the hooks broke. Its the hook that holds each blind piece together.
