creative window covering ideas? I have a window that is a different size than the rest of the windows in my rec room, and it is oddly placed. I am thinking of having shutters put on the other windows, but can't put one on the odd one. Any suggestions on how to cover the odd one to make it more cohesive? the window has no sill or any other architectural details.
Any ideas for a RUSTIC window covering? I am redoing my bathroom in a rustic style - Earthtones - twig-shelves, some barnwood, etc. (Not hillbilly-rustic, but more Rocky Mountain Lodge rustic.) I'm going to use sticks from trees in my yard to make a curtain rod for the window. The window already has wood shutters on the lower half of the window. We live in the Mountains, so I don't need any type of "privacy curtain", just something stylish. There used to be a valence on that window, but I think I'd like to do something different. And, I'll probably make it myself. Any ideas?

ideas on DIY thermal/solar window covering? I live in a hot climate and need something to block the sun from coming in (so I won't have to resort to getting an AC). Any ideas for covering a window in my shower? I just moved into a lease home. In my master bath, there is a huge 45 " x 45.5" frosted window. The thing is, that while taking a shower, I noticed that I could see some details outside a little more clearly than I thought I should. A few days later, I had my roommate stand in the shower while I went around outside... and holy cow!! I could see at first her outline clear as day, then she leaned closer and I could see the design on her t-shirt and the color of her eyes. I was momentarily mortified. Since this is a lease house, I need a good temporary idea for covering that window up so I can take private showers!!!

Help, I Need ideas for a wall-covered window!? We've recently dry-wall covered a the original window in our kitchen, over the sink, because it was looking into the addition (done by previous owner). Now we have a window-box space and the area is a bit dark and awkward looking. I need ideas for how to add some function, asthetics, and also light to this otherwise dead space above the sink. We're keeping the original (1950s) built-in cabinets on either side, so to add one in the center to match would be difficult - might look cheezy. It's a galley style kitchen and the windows are at one far end near the nook area. Help!!

What kind of window covering should I use besides blinds on closet windows? I have a small room with 2 windows off my bedroom. I want to convert this room into a closet. I am concerned about the sunlight fading the clothes; on the other hand, I would like to retain as much light as possible. I don't particularly want to use blinds. I am seriously considering using the self-adhering embossed vinyl window film. Good idea or bad idea? Do you have any other suggestions? Thank you.
Can anyone tell me where I can buy exterior window covering? I saw a commercial for window coverings for the exterior they are made of glass and you screw them on to the out side of the window. This will help keep the cold out and also could be a storm window. If anyone has a idea of what i'm speaking of please tell my the website or where I can buy them. thanx :)
Need ideas to cover window in bath room.? It is a small window, in the shower area of all places. It has blinds but they ruin easily, obviously. We can't afford to replace it with a window with special glass. I am asking for ideas to make sure no one can see through. Suggestions for website or book on ideas for covering an interior brick wall in the family room? My new home has a family room downstairs (split level) with a full wall of brick with fireplace off to one side. The floor is pergo and even with lots of windows, it looks quite dark. I like interior design magazines with the light colored wood wall coverings (not bookshelves, but wainscoating?). Please point me to some websites and/or books for ideas on how to cover that ugly brick wall. Thank you.
Window just above the bathtub remodeling/design ideas? I am remodeling a bathroom and I have a window just above the tub. If you take a shower, you need to cover it with a window curtain. Need help with window covering... pic included? http://img27.imageshack.us/img27/527/picture047ypk.jpg These windows are in my living room and I have no idea on how to cover them. It is more for keeping out the light, although you can see into part of our upstairs through the top portion of the windows from the outside. There are already blinds on the lower part of the windows, but we are not sure if or what drapes/curtains would look good... and what we can cover the top part of the windows up with. Any ideas are greatly appreciated, hope this all makes sense!!! Thank you! We have all the measurements, I guess I wasn't being very clear. We are not sure what would look good... blinds vs. full length curtains with like a valance, etc. We don't want it to look tacky, so my question was regarding what decorating options we had. Ty :)
Ideas for Octagon Shaped Window? Does anyone have any ideas what I can do to cover an octagon window I have in my bathroom? The window itself is leaded glass with a flower design and some parts of the flower is frosted glass. I still feel like you can see through it even though parts are frosted. Any ideas???
Need window covering for stained glass window? We have a very large stained glass window in our kitchen above the sink about 5 feet wide and 3 feet high. It is a stained glass window out of a church. It is stained glass throughout the window, not just on the top or sides. My dilemma is that it is a west facing window and I can see that as the summer comes along the heat will just pour through this window causing our house to heat up. (we don't have air conditioning) Anyone have any ideas for window coverings that won't take away from the window but still help keep the hot sunlight out?
Any ideas on how to decorate ugly garage windows? I have a second, unattached, garage next to our house. It has 4 long, evenly spaced windows. Some are cracked and you can see in to it. The outside has not been sided yet and has plain weathered looking wood on it. I was thinking of putting a boulder under each window or a bench under the windows. any other ideas? How can I cover the windows so you don't see into the mess? I'm a single mom and don't know how to do anything too involved. Also, I rent. Thanks!
Window treatment for these huge windows? I need ideas on window covering for these windows! Do they make automatic window blinds for them (probably expensive) or would custom drapes work better(who would you suggest on making them). The sun is so much lower this time of the year and the sun is blaring and I can take it anymore. What would you suggest? http://inlinethumb24.webshots.com/18455/2667114040044541502S425x425Q85.jpg
Any ideas for creating a visual barrier for a window? I have two nosy dogs who will create havoc in our new neighborhood if we let them look out the front window (barking at passersby, etc.) I really need cool ideas for an inexpensive but esthetically pleasing (from inside and outside) "thing" that would cover about 12" (vertical) of the bottom portion of the window. It would need to be easily removable (so we can open the window, etc.) The simplest thing would be construction paper, but that would look tacky. The next simplest thing would be to put a big plant out there, but they'll be able to see through the leaves. Thanks in advance to all you creatively clever DIY's ! Thanks so much for your ideas! We did consider Levolor blinds (they're in the back of our truck) but they're very expensive (we actually have three windows we need to work with). Any inexpensive ideas? We can make something too.
Ideas on how to repair a tear in a Jeep Wrangler plastic window, the tear is where the plastic meets fabric? There is a tear in my drivers side window at the bottom where the plastic is covered by the fabric, but the fabric is coming lose and the tear is starting to show and open itself to elements. Also, this window zipper only closes and opens one way, going the other way the teeth will not connect, any ideas? Also, there is a larger 4-5 inch tear in my rear plastic window right under where the zipper releases the plastic from the fabric. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Seven (7!) windows in my living room! Need economical window dressing ideas!? These are narrow, about 18" wide and 5 feet tall. Standard 8-ft ceiling. 3 windows on side wall, 4 on street side, with 3-1/2 feet between them. 1 window on each wall gets covered by a door when it's open, so nothing that sticks out very far will work. Privacy needed, but don't want to loose the daylight. Have left the previous owners mini-blinds up there "temporarily" for 5 years - time to do something wonderful. But everything I come up with costs about $200 per window and that's too much times seven!!! I am crafty, and my style is traditional-transitional-eclectic, so I'm open to suggestions. Any great ideas?
Ideas for a big bay window....? I am moving to a smaller place, but I want to make it fabulous. I am into contemporary looks. I love zebra patterns, but I have gotten away from that a little bit as I got a little older. My couch is tan swede. My walls will be off white with a white ceiling. I may paint 2 inch clear gloss stripes over the flat white painted walls, for the contrast when the light hits the walls. So I just was looking for ideas for covering a big open window. The window has about four long window panes. I dont have a picture. I have googled ideas, but havent found anythng awesome. Any ideas, pictures, thoughts are welcome. btw, the window is in the kitchen and is almost the width of the kitchen. Thanks.
Vinyl lattice as window storm covering.? I live in South Florida, after the hurricanes of the last couple of years and other factors, I have become extremely claustrophobic. I cannot even be in an elevator anymore for more than 2 floors. The thought of being behind plywood boards for days on end, totally freaks me out; so I am looking for alternatives that are 1) inexpensive, 2) protective against flying objects and 3) allow light into the house. I have come up with the idea of vinyl lattice board, they meet all 3 of my requirements. I have looked into lexan panels and they are $4k for my home. (the dealers will do an all or nothing install). Anyone else have any other low cost ideas? or suggestions? in response to my 2 answers so far: 1st - My windows are rollouts, so a permanent covering is out, or I wouldn't be able to open them at all; and 2ndly, I can't move, I just moved in there a month ago. I am a Florida native, I love a good storm, it isn't the storm I have problems with, its the dark enclosed space. And hurricanes don't always come at night. If vinyl lattice is impact resistant to 150 psi, why wouldn't they work? Please validate your response.
Anybody have an idea on what to cover my window with to make my bedroom dark? I live in an apartment and mine is at the end,so the lights from outside shine right in the window. I have curtains and blinds up,but the light shines in still. I couldn't take it anymore so I taped foil on the window,it makes the room pretty dark, but it looks so tacky from the outside. I don't think anyone sees it except for the gardener, but I would still like to put up something that looks better then that. I don't like doing cheasy stuff. Any ideas? Thanks in advance
I need a good window covering color, small room, blue carpet? Ok, boy, do I need ideas. I have a very small living room, with a woodstove right in the middle of the wall facing you when you walk in, there is a window on each side of the woodstove. The woodstove is also surrounded by dark brick. I have a dark brown leather sofa and recliner, as well as coffee table, and med blue carpet. The walls are a wallpaper of a beige, the adjoing kitchen has wooden floors, a wallpaper with a small blue pattern. I also have a dark green recliner in the room. My problem is window covering. Currently, nothing matches, and I can't stand it, however, I am undecided on what color window covering to go with, I have a total of 4 windows to cover, so the right color is critical. I can accesorise with pillows once I get the window coverings figured out, I know I want a panel type covering but what color ? Or a print ? The living room already feels very cabin like, but needs color, I know the obvious color scheme would be blue and brown, but is that kind of bland ? Keep in mind it is a small room. Please !Help !

Eyebrow (palladian) window covering? Just got a new house that has several eyebrow windows that we want to put a treatment in/on. The things I've seen online are ridiculously expensive so I thought I could make my own. I've checked diy and hgtv websites but no plans or ideas. Anyone have experience??
What is the best way to temporarily replace a car window? My driver side window on my car was shattered and I already have a replacement. The only problem is that I have to go on a 200 mile drive back home (college) and I need to know what is the best temporary window cover for the time being. I imagine trash bags will fall apart and will not provide any sideview mirror access. Any ideas??
Any ideas for a RUSTIC window covering? I am redoing my bathroom in a rustic style - Earthtones - twig-shelves, some barnwood, etc. (Not hillbilly-rustic, but more Rocky Mountain Lodge rustic.) Question on floor to ceiling bay window covers? OK DH and I are looking at a remodeled home that is great-it is move in ready and it is goregous. There is one big issue though in the living room. It has the original bay window with about 20 square single pane glass panals and it starts maybe 8 in from the floor. We have a toddler, 2 cats, and a 40 pound dog. Yikes. I am trying to think of ways to cover this window that won't be awful to look at but will give some safety. One recomendation was to put a 1/4 in piece of acrylic inside the bow of the window(just run it across the flat part) that goes up say 36 in. Then install shutters across that portion and a seperate row across the top that way we can open the slats on the bottom to let in light and still have the safety and the top shutters can befully opened or adjust the slats what have you for light and looks. I love the shutter idea and just didn't think they would give enough strength to add safety, but with the acrylic it might. Does this sound like a possible solution? Oh-I should say that we know the windows need to be redone at some point. The folks who flipped this place replaced all the windows but this one due to the scale. As soon as it is in our budget we will do that but for the present time we need a workable solution. Also, anyone know of shutters that increas the R value of the windows? I know honeycomb shades can do that but doubt that they would last against my gang.
How can I remove mold that has started growing on/in my window air conditioner? I noticed that black mold has begun to grow on the plastic grill cover of my window air conditioners. This has never happened before and I obviously want to get rid of it prior to starting them for the season. Is there a way to check the interior of the unit and clean it? I've called around and no one services window units anymore. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks!
How do I get a skunk out of my window well? This skunk has taken up residence outside my basement window. It is still there even at night. I have purchased window well covers so that it won't be able to come back, but it won't leave. I have gone out there all times of the day and night, but it is always there. Any ideas?
I need some decorating ideas for my large windows in my living room? I have a large center window measuring 53" wide and two side windows measuring 26" each, for an overall width of 105". These are north facing windows and they become cold at night. I do not want to cover the entire window and lose my view or light. I hope someone will have a great idea for what type of window treatments would work best for me.
