What can I do for blackout window covering? I have a bedroom on the second floor which has presently for window covering just a stained glass hanging and sheer curtains. I am having a guest for a month visit and would like to be able to offer the option of blackout for sleeping as the sunrise will be very early during August. Any suggestions for a temporary fix that will not look ugly?
What kind of window covering should I use besides blinds on closet windows? I have a small room with 2 windows off my bedroom. I want to convert this room into a closet. I am concerned about the sunlight fading the clothes; on the other hand, I would like to retain as much light as possible. I don't particularly want to use blinds. I am seriously considering using the self-adhering embossed vinyl window film. Good idea or bad idea? Do you have any other suggestions? Thank you.

Is there an easy window covering for living room windows besides curtains and mini blinds? I have 1 large window and 4 small (2 are opaque). Large is approx. 4.5 ft. x 4.5 ft., in a rather modern apt. Silver metal window casings and windows push out with handle at bottom. There are no panes in them and they are recessed about 2 inches. The small ones are about 3" x 1.5". I am looking for something that is not real expensive, easy to install and attractive. Are there adhesives that are opaque? However, then I couldn't see out during the day. I'm stumped. I could always use mini blinds I suppose. Any suggestions?
Any ideas for a RUSTIC window covering? I am redoing my bathroom in a rustic style - Earthtones - twig-shelves, some barnwood, etc. (Not hillbilly-rustic, but more Rocky Mountain Lodge rustic.) I'm going to use sticks from trees in my yard to make a curtain rod for the window. The window already has wood shutters on the lower half of the window. We live in the Mountains, so I don't need any type of "privacy curtain", just something stylish. There used to be a valence on that window, but I think I'd like to do something different. And, I'll probably make it myself. Any ideas?
Can anyone tell me where I can buy exterior window covering? I saw a commercial for window coverings for the exterior they are made of glass and you screw them on to the out side of the window. This will help keep the cold out and also could be a storm window. If anyone has a idea of what i'm speaking of please tell my the website or where I can buy them. thanx :)
What window covering would be best for a window that is behind a couch? No, there is no other place in the room to put the couch. Other sides of the room feature a door, a fireplace, a staircase, and an opening to the dining room. For the short term, we have thrown up some ugly burgundy drapes that we acquired cheaply for a previous apartment. I am thinking that blinds would look better behind a couch than would curtains or drapes. What do you think?
How difficult is it to apply this plastic tinted window covering? My car has had this tint applied to side and back windows, but is starting to peel off, so before I make my mind up to apply new stuff, just thought I would ask if any body else had used it and how difficult is it to put on, and is it realy worth the money? Uncle Fester, thanks for reply, I am intending to just tint the rear window, the very back side windows, and leave alone the front passenger windows, and windscreen, your link is very helpfull as to keeping on the right side of the law. Cheers.

Any suggestions about what kind of window covering....? I should use in a bathroom window?? It is a weird size (something like 60x64) and standard blinds/drapes won't fit. It is over my garden tub and it has crank handles to open the windows outward. I was just looking for something affordable that would give us some privacy!

Window Covering Design Rules? What's the design rule when it comes to hard treatment window coverings? Do I need to go with either all wood blinds or all Roman blinds in the entire house or can I mix? Meaning, I'd like to use wood blinds in the living room and family room and use romans in the bedrooms.
Anyone have ideas for covering a 24" by 27" window? I live in an apartment with a backdoor that has a 24" by 27"glass window that is covered with what looks like chicken wire metal. I want to cover it because of security reasons and I don't want anyone to see what I have in my apartment. Any ideas on how I should cover it? I have very modern tastes ----
creative window covering ideas? I have a window that is a different size than the rest of the windows in my rec room, and it is oddly placed. I am thinking of having shutters put on the other windows, but can't put one on the odd one. Any suggestions on how to cover the odd one to make it more cohesive? the window has no sill or any other architectural details.
Covering up a badly textured window? Im buying a house, and I dont have alot of extra funds, or time. There was a window that the previous owners had taken out and covered it very badly with texture that doesnt match the rest of the room. I was wondering if anyone had some sites that sell large artwork, or anything else to hang that would cover it, for under $200? The window is approximately 30x60 (WxH) Any help is appreciated. Yes, because tearing a hole in my wall will certainly cost less than $200, thank you.
Window sunscreen film covering - I would like to apply to the plexiglass.? It is normally applied directly to the inside of the glass window. The directions state that it should not be applied to plexiglass. Does anyone know why? I have a skylight that lets in too much sunlight and I would like to block some of the sunlight coming in. Will the film adhere to the plexiglass or damage it?
ideas on DIY thermal/solar window covering? I live in a hot climate and need something to block the sun from coming in (so I won't have to resort to getting an AC). I'm on a tight budget so I can't afford the ready made solar shades. Do you have ideas on good materials to block the sun? Or are there online tutorials to help me? Thanks for any advice! :)
Will covering my window with an electrostatic A/C filter reduce dust while maintaining clean air exchange? I think that I may be sensitive to outdoor dust near my apartment but I want to maintain fresh air exchange (otherwise it gets "stuffy"). Recently I've thought of putting an electrostatic air conditioner filter (3M Filtrete) to cover my windows (it only costs $8 per filter and it's said to last 2 months). While the filter should reduce airflow somewhat I think I'll still be able to get enough air exchange with it. Question: If any water/humidity comes into contact with the filter (the filter was originally designed for an air conditioner) will that cause it to lose its electrostatic properties (ie. will it become less effective at trapping dust?). Is there anything else I should consider before putting in the filter (any undesired effects?)??
Where can I get blinds to cover my long and skinny window? Hello, I have a 9"x57" long window to the right of my front door (long and skinny). I want to get a window covering for it because every time the wind blows a tree in our front yard our stinkin' dogs think someone is at the front door and run and bark towards it! Anyway, we have white faux wood throughout the house so it would be nice to have something that matches. Does anyone have any suggestions, something that is not too costly?
Can anyone suggest a window/sliding glass door covering that would keep my apartment cooler? With the cost of living rising in all directions I'm trying to keep the household energy costs down. And since I'm not at home during the day it's o.k. not to run the air conditioning. BUT...when I do get home it takes soooooo long for my apartment to cool down that my bill is out rageoulsy high during the summer. Unfortunately for me my apartment gets direct sunlight most of the day. I have blinds that are closed all day but the heat still comes through. Any suggestions?
Pumpkin Walls, what colour window covering? We just painted our kitchen pumpkin. It looks great but I am not sure what kind of window covering to put on the window and what colour. Our new countertop is dark brown too. Any suggestions?
window covering to keep in heat? It's an ice box in our house so I'm going to go to home depot today to buy something to cover up our drafty windows. Does anyone have any recommendations? Never did this before.... thanks!

Question on floor to ceiling bay window covers? OK DH and I are looking at a remodeled home that is great-it is move in ready and it is goregous. There is one big issue though in the living room. It has the original bay window with about 20 square single pane glass panals and it starts maybe 8 in from the floor. We have a toddler, 2 cats, and a 40 pound dog. Yikes. I am trying to think of ways to cover this window that won't be awful to look at but will give some safety. One recomendation was to put a 1/4 in piece of acrylic inside the bow of the window(just run it across the flat part) that goes up say 36 in. Then install shutters across that portion and a seperate row across the top that way we can open the slats on the bottom to let in light and still have the safety and the top shutters can befully opened or adjust the slats what have you for light and looks. I love the shutter idea and just didn't think they would give enough strength to add safety, but with the acrylic it might. Does this sound like a possible solution? Oh-I should say that we know the windows need to be redone at some point. The folks who flipped this place replaced all the windows but this one due to the scale. As soon as it is in our budget we will do that but for the present time we need a workable solution. Also, anyone know of shutters that increas the R value of the windows? I know honeycomb shades can do that but doubt that they would last against my gang.
Vinyl lattice as window storm covering.? I live in South Florida, after the hurricanes of the last couple of years and other factors, I have become extremely claustrophobic. I cannot even be in an elevator anymore for more than 2 floors. The thought of being behind plywood boards for days on end, totally freaks me out; so I am looking for alternatives that are 1) inexpensive, 2) protective against flying objects and 3) allow light into the house. I have come up with the idea of vinyl lattice board, they meet all 3 of my requirements. I have looked into lexan panels and they are $4k for my home. (the dealers will do an all or nothing install). Anyone else have any other low cost ideas? or suggestions? in response to my 2 answers so far: 1st - My windows are rollouts, so a permanent covering is out, or I wouldn't be able to open them at all; and 2ndly, I can't move, I just moved in there a month ago. I am a Florida native, I love a good storm, it isn't the storm I have problems with, its the dark enclosed space. And hurricanes don't always come at night. If vinyl lattice is impact resistant to 150 psi, why wouldn't they work? Please validate your response.
son's window covering? Every time we put a new blind for my son's window, it is ripped or yanked. The curtain bracket kit comes out from the wall. So, he doesn't have any curtain on the window, either. Most of the time he won't have any covering on his window. How can I fix this problem?
I need a good window covering color, small room, blue carpet? Ok, boy, do I need ideas. I have a very small living room, with a woodstove right in the middle of the wall facing you when you walk in, there is a window on each side of the woodstove. The woodstove is also surrounded by dark brick. I have a dark brown leather sofa and recliner, as well as coffee table, and med blue carpet. The walls are a wallpaper of a beige, the adjoing kitchen has wooden floors, a wallpaper with a small blue pattern. I also have a dark green recliner in the room. My problem is window covering. Currently, nothing matches, and I can't stand it, however, I am undecided on what color window covering to go with, I have a total of 4 windows to cover, so the right color is critical. I can accesorise with pillows once I get the window coverings figured out, I know I want a panel type covering but what color ? Or a print ? The living room already feels very cabin like, but needs color, I know the obvious color scheme would be blue and brown, but is that kind of bland ? Keep in mind it is a small room. Please !Help !
How can I get rid of a bird's nest next to my window air conditioning unit? My husband and I moved here 8 months ago and there's been a nest next to the AC unit in my office window since before we got here. It wasn't a big deal at first, but the birds are very loud and annoying, and I know they can spread diseases, as well. I spend a lot of time in my office, and I have 3 hamsters in here as well that I don't want getting sick! I've already asked my husband to get rid of the nest, but I'm not so sure I want him just unscrewing the plastic window covering and aiming a broom at the nest, in case the stuff gets inside or (worse) a bird gets inside. Any suggestions? And if I call a professional to get rid of it, do you think they'll charge me an arm and a leg? P.S. There are birds living in it, but I don't think there are babies...it's the wrong time of year. Complicating matters is the fact that it's an upstairs window, we don't have a house, and we are renting this apartment, which is over a hair salon.
